Truth In Lending Act
Truth in Lending Act is designed to protect consumers involved in credit transactions by requiring disclosure of important terms of the lending arrangement & the involved costs when making mortgage comparisons. This statute is contained in Title I of Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA) and the regulations implementing the statute are codified at 12 CFR Part 226.
Requirements imposed by TILA are mainly found in Regulation Z, so any reference to the requirements specified in TILA normally refers to requirements mentioned in this Regulation Z.
The main purpose of TILA is promoting informed use of consumer credit and requiring disclosures about all the terms & costs involved in a credit transaction. As per TILA consumers have the right to cancel a transaction which involves lien on their principal residence. This act also regulates certain credit practices and provides clear means of fair & timely resolution of credit billing disputes.
